Sandeep Marwaha
Occupational Therapist, Psychotherapist
Providing relational therapy spiced with culture, curiosity & compassion
(pronounced Sun-dheep)
AKA littlebrowntherapist. I’m an occupational therapist, psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and mental health expert.
I support folks from immigrant and global majority backgrounds navigate relationships, enhance their emotional health, and connect to their internal wisdom to thrive in today's hectic world. I also provide supervision to clinicians practising psychotherapy, along with consultation to organizations seeking clinical expertise to support mental health-related projects and initiatives.
Born and raised in Tkaronto (now known as Toronto) as a daughter of Punjabi Sikh immigrants and currently raising a multi-ethnic family, my life crosses multiple intersections of identity. I bring this awareness, along with my lived experiences with depression, anxiety, and chronic illness, into my work. I employ culturally-sensitive, anti-oppressive, and trauma-aware approaches to create an atmosphere of safety and collaboration.
When not working, you might catch me napping, in a yoga or pilates class, reading, daydreaming about a beach in Barbados, drinking coffee, trying to frantically corral my two school-age kids, or sitting on the couch snacking on popcorn with my favourite person in the world, my husband.
LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: I continue to navigate my relationship to Tkaronto and Turtle Island, to the land’s original inhabitants and stewards, including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnaabe, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples, and to the members of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities that continue to reside here. As a brown woman born to immigrants and raised on this land, I recognize that I am complicit in settler-colonialism while also having ancestral history of harm caused by colonialism in Punjab and the Indian subcontinent. I find The 519's Land Acknowledgement particularly meaningful. I also encourage you to listen to, watch, and reflect on Sarah Roque and Selena Mills’ “Land acknowledgements: an oral history of Tkaronto.”
Whether providing therapy, supervision, consultation, or education, I lead with my heart and with the hope of creating a more just, kind, and loving world.

psychotherapy
As a brown kid of immigrants from the Global South, I can appreciate the nuances, struggles, and beauty of being from immigrant and global majority communities.
My work is guided by my values of acceptance, compassion, curiosity, and connection. Using an anti-oppressive, self-compassion, and relational lens, I will support you to see that your mental health struggles make sense given your individual and collective experiences. With this deepened awareness, I will support you to soften towards yourself, slowly heal, and move in alignment with your values rather than fear.
I sprinkle different approaches into my practice, including Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and mindfulness-based practices. One thing I haven't learned is to fix my face, so sessions might also include a dash of humour, an F-bomb or two, and definitely my expressive face!
For me, therapy is about building relationship and partnership. I view my role as that of a teammate: we both bring our experiences and knowledge into the space and work together towards a common goal. Sometimes I will teach, sometimes I will learn, sometimes I will push you, and through it all, I will always be your cheerleader.
Services are available for Canadian residents (except, unfortunately, B.C., Quebec, and Saskatchewan). My fee ranges from $170 to $220 per 50-minute session. I have a limited number of sliding scale spots. My practice is primarily virtual. In-person sessions in Toronto are available upon request.
Clinical Supervision
“The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life.” – Rabindranath Tagore
I offer clinical supervision and consultation to occupational therapists (OTs) practising the controlled act of psychotherapy in Ontario. My areas of practice include multicultural mental health, trauma, depression, anxiety, and perinatal mood disorders.
Trauma-informed and intersectional feminist approaches underpin my supervision. I see myself as a guide on your journey to becoming a compassionate, curious, and creative clinician. As a guide, I will share what has helped me, my wins and losses, and the ways my social identities (i.e., areas of privilege and marginalization) shape my journey.
I will meet you at your development stage and support you to develop learning goals and plans. I will discuss cases, encourage problem solving, and provide insights and strategies when needed. We will also reflect on your journey--your wins and losses and how your social identities and personal experiences shape your journey. We cannot separate our clinical work from the context of our lives and our clients' lives, and so discussion about systemic issues impacting your work will also occur.
Individual and small group supervision/consultation are available for provider teams in the health services sector and for clinicians practising psychotherapy, working in mental health, or interested in learning about psychotherapeutic modalities. Sessions are virtual. In person sessions are available upon request.
